Merging Libraries

Here you can find discussions pertaining to finding or creating Symbols and package footprints. Anything to do with Schematic or layout parts will be placed in this discussion.

Merging Libraries

We have several designers creating parts. Is there a way to merge footprint/symbol libraries into one?

Thanks!

There is no was to copy or merge multiple symbols from one library to another, but you can move them one at a time. Merging libraries requires you to have both libraries on the same machine. You can open your symbols in the Symbol editor and save them to a new library one at a time.

From the Schematic
  1. Place the libraries in your Custom folder
  2. Select Tools > Symbol Editor
  3. Select the Open Symbol tool bar button.
  4. Locate the symbol you want to copy and load symbol.
  5. Select the Save Symbol toolbar button
  6. Select library to save into.
  7. Select OK

Footprints can by copied to a new library in a group.
  1. From the layout select Design > Manage Library.
  2. Select the library that contains the parts you want to copy.
  3. Go to the footprints section and select all of the footprints you want then select the copy button.
  4. Go back to the libraries section and select the destination library.
  5. Move to the footprints section and select the paste button.
I have provided feedback to our development team asking for a library manager for schematic symbols.
