PCB123 V5.0.3 installation: Invincea

Postby jllsmith » Mon Jul 28, 2014 10:04 pm

While running installation, I get a window saying:

"The following applications are using files which the installer must update. You can either close the applications and click "Try Again", or click "continue" so that the installer continues the installation, and replaces these files when your system restarts"

and then lists:
Invincea Browser Protection
Invincea VM Manager
Invincea Service

[I work at a defense company and ] Invincea is the S/W installed by our IT folks to prevent any malware or virus intrusions, and generally isolates our PCs from internet access.

What existing system files does the PCB123 install need to update that may be used by our browser protection system, and what changes are made to those files?

It's not uncommon to disable antivirus or malware software before installing an application. I will email our developer to see if I can get more detail. Have you checked with your IT department to see if special permissions are required to install software with Invincea running?

Notes from our developer.

The problem is not with PCB123 needing to update system files. Neither PCB123 nor the InstallShield wizard modifies any system files. The only files that are modified by the installer are those that may already exist in two folders and their subfolders used only by PCB123:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Sunstone Circuits\PCB123 V5

and

C:\ProgramData\PCB123

When the error message appears during the install saying, “The following applications are using files that need to be updated by this setup”, it is saying that the listed applications (three Invincea antivirus programs) have one or more of the PCB123 files open that reside in one or both of the two PCB123 folders listed above. Because of the operating system handles held by the Invincea antivirus programs on its open PCB123 files, the installer will not be able to replace the existing PCB123 files with the new ones from the latest release. The installer has prescreened all of the existing PCB123 files and discovered that the Invincea antivirus program has several of them open and that if the Invincea antivirus program is not closed for the duration of the install, then the PCB123 installation will fail (because the installer will not be able to replace the old PCB123 files with the new ones).

You can ignore the drc. I have an enhancement request in to our developer to allow users to disqualify specific drc warnings.
