how to merge custom.tax files

Postby cepope13 » Fri Mar 08, 2013 9:02 am

I have two seperate custom libraries that i want to merge. They have distinct .slb and .sym files but as far as I can tell pcb123 only uses the one custom.tax. Is there a way to combine my two custom.tax files into one? Thanks

Unfortunately, there is no way to merge the two custom.tax files. I have submitted this feedback to our development team.

There is a post from one of our users who provides a tip on sharing libraries between his two computers. You may find this helpful.

What is necessary to "share" a library?

Along the same lines: is there a way to export a taxonomy from a .123 file to a .tax file? I have some parts that exist in a schematic I made but I've since lost the .tax file I pulled them from originally. Trying to avoid having to recreate them. Thanks

You cannot export a taxonomy file from a PCB123 file. The taxonomy file just contains the associations between the symbol (stored in .sym files) and footprints (stored in .slb files). So if you still have the .sym and .slb files you should be able to recreate the taxonomy entry without recreating the symbol or footprint.

I'd just like to chime in on this and put my vote for it in as well. I have a work computer, a home computer, a laptop... It'd be nice if I could share data across computers, laptops, with coworkers, etc. :)

Library sharing is something we are looking into for the future.
